A lovely independent school that really has the best interests of your child at heart.
My 4 year old boy started a year ago and has not looked back since. He is a very well-balanced and happy boy. West Dene really has brought out the best in him.
There is a good mix of long standing teachers and new teachers all directed by a highly capable but very approachable headmaster. Mr Peter Kelly has a clear vision for the enhancement of academic and pastoral achievements at West Dene.
There are few, if any, downsides. The school is undergoing a big redevelopment, the work for which usually takes place during holidays to minimise disruption. Class sizes are, in the main, small and classes are bright and airy with plenty of equipment and books. Teachers are always accessible if you have any concerns and there are formal parents evenings. The school encourages a lot of parental involvement.
There is an early morning and late school club to help us working parents. Your child can stay from 8pm to 6pm with sandwiches on offer in the afternoon.
There is a strong PTA called 'The Friends of West Dene School'who work alongside the Headmaster and Governors to provide additional equipment through a variety of fund raising initiatives. They recently helped purchase a 17 seater minibus.
All in all West Dene is a delightful school which achieves the perfect balance of academic achievement whilst nurturing the very important social development of your child.
